My grandfather who was an auto mechanic started that love of cars in me at a very
young age and because of that, I became a GTO fan. One of my first cars was a
4-speed 1968 GTO I used as a daily driver. I joined GTO Association of America
(GTOAA) in May of 1985 and became very active. It seemed like there was a never-ending need for staff, so I volunteered myself for myself to be the co-chapter coordinator. Over the years, I have held many positions and still hold 2 of them now.:
Many of the above listed positions were held concurrently as staff position were vacated without notice and it was just easiest at the time to take them over. I never ever considered the Presidency, even though I was asked. I was just too busy serving the positions I held. You know, once you get things purring, you don’t want to throw a monkey wrench in the engine and cause issues.
After years of scouring the newspaper ads, newsletters and visiting with numerous people, my ex-husband and I had accumulated a large collection of GTO’s and Pontiac parts. Most of the collection of cars and parts have been sold to other Pontiac fans. The majority of the parts were sold to a collector who was using them to re-open a Pontiac dealership and to restore/repair cars with, in some cases, used parts.
I currently have as a personal vehicle a 1970 GTO Judge and am the co-owner of a 1970 convertible. I also have an extensive collection of little GTO’s (models, toys, etc.) of all sizes and years and a complete set of service manuals for all years of the GTO’s. Have not personally missed a GTOAA convention since my first one in 1985, so I have a collection of meet souvenirs and t-shirts as well.
