I have had a very interesting life indeed.

My Dad (Maurice J. McCarthy) was a famous amateur Golfer, having won the 1927 intercollegiate golf tournament as well as many others. He had a job at Anaconda Wire & Cable and became a Vice President. I became a good golfer, and oddly, it was how I discovered Pontiacs in 1962.

BIOGRAPHY

I was playing golf in Pomona, CA. in 1962, across from the Winter Nationals Drag Race and saw the races Pontiac was winning with their 421SD engines. I became involved with Pontiacs soon after. I was employed with AT&T at the time, and bought one “Poncho” after another. I also purchased a 1962 Catalina, a 1964 GTO and others, I raced them all.

I became obsessed with Pontiacs and attended dozens of drag races in the 1960’s thru 1980’s. I began to be interested in the Pontiac Engine technology and spent lots of time in various companies working on Pontiac heads and engines so much that I began to write and publish books about Pontiacs in the eighties. They became so popular that I started publishing a magazine that I obtained from Don Keefe called “Pontiac Enthusiast.” At the same time I published my own books, Pontiac Racers & High Performance Handbook in 1981 and Pontiac Musclecar Performance 1955-1979 in 1989.

In the 1990’s I actually produced a video called “Performance Porting”, all about airflow and velocity tests and how to increase engine power through cylinder heads. I began traveling everywhere in the 1990’s meeting dozens of Pontiac employees and enthusiasts.

At the age of 70, I began to ease up a little but my products are still moving to this day. I’m so lucky to still be alive at the age of 87. I was so disappointed when Pontiac was officially dropped from the car industry, however, the days of Pontiac domination will live on for many more years.
